Skeptical at first, but amazing first impression
Love at first sight (day zero); granted, I have only seen the Chippewa snake boots in action in Texan rangelands, and even the Chippewa crumbles to the rugged Tarrant soils. I have not worn the Danner San Angelo snake boots either, but I have had Danner boots for years and know the craftsmanship quality. Now, the Rocky snake boots out of the box look fantastic, and by that, I mean full-grain leather, 900 nylon snake shields, good soles, rugged zipper, and it was effortless to put them on.I have seen many reviews arguing that you need to break them in before you feel comfortable, and generally, I would agree with that. However, I went half size up knowing that that’s the way to go with hiking-ranching-fieldwork boots, and with thick socks, I see no problems walking around the house for three hours.I will take them to the ranch, conduct fieldwork, and prescribed fires, so stay tune for updates.So far, worth the $170 in my experience.

Impossible to get foot in and out of boot.
Horrible design. Almost impossible to get on and to take off. Comfortable to wear but getting foot inside is too difficult even after buying larger than normal size and wide. I wear an 11 but bought 12W to make sure it was big enough. Even with zipper open completely the narrow opening at the start of leather portion of boot where foot goes is too narrow to get foot through. I've worn them twice while quail hunting. I almost cry at the thought of putting them on. Maybe 10 minute struggle to get on and longer to get off.

Very nice product, excellent quality and fits very comfortable. Great for the price. I wore these while deer hunting this past season, I walked up on a 4ft. timber rattler while heading to my stand. I just kept my distance and gave the snake its space as to where I didn't want to find out what these boots would do. Be safe and happy hunting next season.

Really nice boots except for one critical thing
Absolutely loved these boots. They seem well made, heavy duty and were perfect for my needs with one small but critical thing. I could NOT get my foot into them! As others have noted, the ankle is so small that my foot wouldn't go through it. I tried and tried because I wanted to keep these boot so badly. I ordered a half size larger than my usual and ordered a wide, hoping that would overcome the tight ankle problem. The "foot" portion appeared to be a good fit, holding it up to my foot. But after pulling and pulling, it became obvious that if I somehow managed to get my foot through the ankle portion I would be unable to get my foot out without cutting the boot off! So disappointed. I wanted to keep these boots so much. I asked the seller to notify me if they redesigned the ankle to this foot wear because I would order them in a second. I didn't want to give them a low rating because they are really nice.... if you can get your foot in them.

What can one say, you shop, pay, receive and wear PERIOD!
Like: Does exactly what I bought them for - Ranch, Land, Use. Have not had need, and hope never do to test for snake bite. Comfortable fit, very light! Narrow instep/ankle
8.5 wide men's size was as ordered and by outer comparison the size appears accurate, however the ankle instep is very narrow. I could not put them on. It wasn't even close. No amount of shoehorn or stretching was going to fix it. Getting a large size wouldn't be an option because they would need to be clownishly large to make that instep large enough for me. It's a shame, because they look fantastic. I'll have to return them.

Good for some-this design is not for everyone
Zipper not well placed and well designed. It would have been better down the front of the boot.Very narrow on top of the foot and couldn’t get my foot in. Material was very stiff but height was good.
