You won't find a better hiking / walking shoe to buy. The quality is 10 stars!

I own 6 pairs of this exact shoe but different colors. I am flat footed and put a thin insole in them. Since they are a approach shoe them have stiff slightly rocker sole that is grippy but tuff as nails. I have only wore the bottom off one pair in the last 5 five years. To clean you just wash the shoe with dish soap and brush it when dry. The dye they use goes completely through the leather. These shoes are not cheap, but they tuff as nails and comfortable as slippers. They are however on the heavy side, almost like a light boot. Hiking /walking great, but not a running shoe at all.

Sturdy and well built but my foot is a little different

I did return these, but not for any malfunction reason.I own a pair of Wildfire GTX. They fit great and secure my heel better than any shoe I have ever worn. No sliding around inside. These locked my heel just ad well. They appeared well built, so I figure tgey would hold up.Now the reasons. 1) Tight around the forefoot. Enough that I knew it would not break in. 2) The ratio of the sole of the heel to the height off the ground left me feeling like I was counting down to a rolled ankle. These are both personal "feel" so the shoe is great but does not fit me well.

Tight fight, solid, sturdy shoe.

Definitely a solid hiking shoe. Sturdy and stable. Excellent tread on steep, gravelly terrain. Also got compliments on the way they look. However, they are absolutely NOT for the wide-footed. So, if you’re like me, you’re going to have to research some good techniques on breaking the shoe in to fit your foot. It can be done, and you will enjoy the shoe afterwards.Other than that, good shoe!

great shoes

This is very very stiff shoe. Just what I was looking for. I just got them so I can't speak to durability. However, the materials and build seem top notch. Many reviews say they run small so order a size up. That is not my experience. I ordered one half size up and they are that much too big. I would order normal size.

Great long lasting shors

I purchased the non-goretex version of this shoe three years ago and used them almost every single day. My only complaint was that my feet would get sweaty in the summer, and wet in the fall or winter. Goretex fixes both these complaints and I’m very happy with these shoes.

VERY HEAVY-BAD SHOELACE DESIGN

VERY HEAVY!!! The shoelace design makes the shoe loose around the heel because they stopped short spatially on the last eyelet. I've worn salewa's for years and their other shoes have the last eyelet up higher which keeps your foot surrounded by the heel support. The tread is very slipper on wet surfaces, especially rocks, blacktop, wood. Major disappointment and a waste of $169.00!!! I've worn them a couple of times otherwise I'd return them. I'll give them to a thrift store.

Solid performer

Heavier shoe for serious trail. The are not trail runners and are very durable with high quality components.
