Bought first pair in France and wore them out
my husbands favorite pair of sneakers, will always buy them.
These are truly great shoes, but I prefer the Ultra 3 GTX b/c they were easier to put on, looked MUCH better, and they didn't let the lace quick lace button thing slide down into the shoe. The size is the same perfect 14 as all my other Salomon shoes and boots, so I don't know why Amazon reports these as running small -- they don't.
Great support throughout the shoe, especially the arch. No inserts need with this shoe. Sole grips well on surfaces. QuickTime works really well. A+++ for this shoe!
These are great looking shoes and I use these for daily wear especially when it’s raining. They are a hard shoe though with no real cushion. Bought insoles to help with this. I like the idea of the draw string for easy tightening but it’s a pain to then hide the string in the shoe compartment..
I tried these out and immediately noticed that the wide, stiff heel amplifies the unevenness of the surface terrain. You can feel the upper part of the stiff heel pushing against your ankle, trying to twist it one way or the other, as a result of the wide/extended heel edges. This sort of stiff, wide 'stabilizing' structure may work for people with weak ankles who intend to run or walk on very flat surfaces. However, if you have any kind of decent ankle strength, you just don't need it, and with a narrower, rounder heel, your heel can fit into/match whatever surface you're running on much better, without any twisting of the ankle. This alleviates long-term joint strain throughout the lower body. So the design of this shoe just doesn't seem to work well for trail running.
Shoes came with large indents in the outer fabric (as if someone else had worn them before). I tried to look past the poor presentation and I tried them on. The first thing I noticed was the crease in the shoes dug straight into the top of my foot (behind my toes). It was very uncomfortable and I had to return them.
