I have never had Salomon shoes before. These are really a walking/hiking shoe. Very sturdy in construction, water resistant, good traction, and comfortable. However, I use my own insole, so I can’t speak to comfort out of the box. Also, I found the places to be flimsy and too long, and I replaced with better laces.I notice a difference from common Japanese and American brands, as Salomon is a French company. They are expensive, but they are holding up very well, so I don’t know that they are any more expensive for the number of miles of wear you may get from these. I would buy these again.

Update: (edites at 7 months) four months in holding up surprisingly well.
The shoes appear cheaply made at first glance. However, after a few weeks of everyday use, they seem to be holding well and are extremely comfortable for my movement.Edit: After six months I’m noticing some flaw around the toe. It's starting to come undone. And This is with non-daily use. The price point is high in my opinion. I like the cushion and the look but the quality is perhaps dubious.

Keep My Feet Dry
I've had these 8 months and my feet never get wet. I walk through heavy dew and rain, feet stay dry. Shoes are well built and so far are holding up well. Only negative is I started to get what seemed like planter fasciitis, which required I get some different insoles. It's the first pair of shoes I've encountered that problem with, maybe its just age and not the shipped with insole in the shoes fault. A pair of Dr. Scholl's insert has remedied the problem. If not for this they'd be 5 stars - I bought another pair recently since they were on sale.

I tried on my new Salomon Ultra Flow Gore Tex and they feel good right out of the box. I normally wear a 10.5 wide, but bumped up to an 11 based on other consumer’s reviews. I would say that’s a good recommendation for everyone. The shoes are comfy with a lot of cushion in the sole. Good support for the foot as well. I tend to think there will be a little bit of break in period to get the shoes used to my feet, but not too much. There is a little noise associated with the Gore Tex liner, but it's easy to ignore. Overall, a real good deal through Amazon.
