Great Winter Trail-Running Shoe
First, size. I normally wear an 8.5 to 9 in regular shoes, and always a 9.5 in running shoes (I normally wear Brooks). I first ordered a size 9.5 in these, but they felt quite tight, so I ordered a 10 and they felt much better. I have no experience with Saucony so I don’t know if they run small in general or not. Once I got the fit right, these have been exactly what I was looking for for winter trail-running in Minnesota. I primarily run on packed-snow trails with a good variety of flat, uphill, and downhill sections. They keep my feet warm and dry and provide great traction, even on the hills. The sole seems a bit stiffer than the sole of my Brooks trail-running shoes, but this is a good thing. I have high arches but these provided great support within the shoe and provided a good solid feel on the uneven ground. The laces do loosen up over the course of a run, but I tend to lace a little loosely anyway, so that may be fixed if I were to start with tighter laces in the first place. The primary reasons I added these to my trail-running shoe collection was that my feet had been getting cold when the temperature dropped below the 20s and that my other trail-running shoes were water-resistant but not waterproof, and these definitely addressed both issues. My feet stay warm and dry and I get great traction. Exactly what I was looking for!

Order up AT LEAST one half size.
I love the saucony peregrine line. I’ve been wearing a pair since April and finally decided to retire them after 600+ miles on the trails. Perfect timing for the goretex model. These take me about two weeks to break in. They run a little small. I like an extra half size in hiking shoes, so for hiking I would consider ordering one whole size larger than you usually wear.I prefer a hiking shoe to a boot. I just can’t wear heavy shoes anymore since a back injury and creaky knees and hips leave me achey. It’s a great lightweight shoe with nice waffle stomper soles for mud and loose rock.I tend to roll my ankle easily, and while not a high top there’s enough ankle support and good sole engineering that I haven’t rolled an ankle in these. So far I’ve been hiking in mid 30’s conditions/rain. My feet stay dry. Can’t wait to see how they perform in snow with a pair of gaiters. Will I need spikes? Mmmmaybe. Time will tell.

This model year runs smaller than previous ones
I had been looking for a waterproof athletic shoe with a low heel drop to walk on hiking trails. Most hiking boots and shoes tend to have a pretty big heel drop so I was pleased to discover these with a 4mm drop and goretex to keep my feet dry. Although I have been wearing saucony kinvaras for many years, I had to try several sizes and model years to get the right fit with this peregrine shoe. In case this is useful to someone else, i am a women's 8 in a large majority of shoe brands. I wear a size 8.5 in other saucony shoes. I eventually learned that I am also an 8.5 in the previous model year of this shoe (the Peregrine 10 GTX). But I need a size 9 for this current model year (peregrine 11 GTX).

size gets even smaller
I got my first pair Peregrine 11 GTX a couple of years ago. Based on the product reviews, I went half a size up. They fitted and supported my feet well. I purchased another pair as replacement - same style, same size but the new pair was 1cm smaller than my old pair! I very much like the shoes but have no option but to return them.

Tight Toebox
I wish I would have worn the shoes a little more indoors before venturing an a hike with the dogs. The toe box is extremely tight and it cut the circulation off. My foot was completely numb for most of the walk. I have other Saucony running shoes and love them. I purchased these for the Gore-tex feature and know wish I could return them. If you choose to purchase, you may want to size up.

Heavy shoes - very sturdy
These shoes are very heavy compared to other running shoes. They are stiff so they do not bend with ease. I wouldn’t use them as main walking shoes. I am going to give them a try on a rainy muddy day to find out if the purchase is justified. Overall I do not like the heavy feeling, also my left foot feels numb after a long walk in these shoes. They are too tight and I’m hoping they will loosen up a bit. I’m giving them a chance because if the goretex. I’m fed up from returning home with wet socks from my morning run on winter time
