Shockingly impressed

Amazing right out of the box. Didn’t need much breaking in (some rubbing on the heel, but I’ve yet to find a boot that doesn’t do that to me).Toe box: wide, I have flat feet so this is welcomed. Great protection on very rocky terrainAnkle support: Fantastic. A lot of typical high Colorado talus on their first hike. No ankle twists or tweaks.Dry Rock: stable and sticky. No issuesWet rock: This one worried me, but crossing a few creek crossings on wet boulders gave me a a ton of confidence in these.Sand, dirt, small rocks on steep slopes: We did Missouri Mountain, a Colorado 14er notorious for a section of steep sandy rock and these things gripped like goat’s feet. No issues and no sliding while going downhill on steep sand.Water proof: No issues in water. I did put some suede water proofer on it the day before the hike.Durability: unlike some bad previous reports, no issues with the soles. They actually felt really comfortable and protected my feet and toes extremely well.I only used these for one hike so far, so take the durability with a grain of salt. Though, the hike was 11 miles and 4,500 ft of gain on a tough Colorado 14er.Honestly 5/5. I’ve had 2 mids, 1 trail shoe, and 1 true mountain boot, and these beat them all easily. Very impressed. Will report back if I find durability issues.

These are great boots

This is a great boot. The somewhat wider toe design will accommodate a variety of foot styles (from narrow to wider) and will be comfortable on descends. This boot seems to sport a true size (meaning that if you usually wear an 8 then you can order an 8 and expect to fit you). I guess the heel cushion could have been a touch thicker but it's not really a minus. If needed, a more technical pair of socks should compensate. The laces are really nice and they don't seem to come undone. This boot seems to do well on ascents, descents, gravel, rock and are good for semi-technical approaches. Definitely good for a combination of terrains. It also seems render to be a blister free experience.

Great so far

Just a few short hikes on them, less than 5 miles each. Fit seems right, definitely suited for a wider foot, great lateral rigidity, great protection in rough terrain, light for what they are, break in has been easy. I’ll have to get a few more miles on them for a complete review, but so far very happy.

Received dirty, used shoes

I've worn Scarpa shoes exclusively for at least 25 years. They are amazingly comfortable out of the box, require virtually no break in, and last for a long time. The Zodiac Plus GTX is blissfully light...but heavy duty. They are even lighter than my Scarpa Tech Ascent GTX Approach Boots. However, if you buy Scarpas from Amazon, don't expect unused shoes. The pair I just received had a substantial amount of dirt embedded in the soles and numerous scuff marks on the exterior of the shoe. They had obviously been worn on a rough outside hike and then returned to Amazon.

Perfect boot for everyday anything.

This boot is absolutely perfect. the way its made as well how it fits. I love the way the tongue is made from elastic material and attached higher for better waterproofing. Colors are very well distribute in my opinion and makes the boots look great. I am size 9 (27 centimeter from heal to toe) and i purchased size 9. Fits great even with my wide foot and high arch as well. I walk all day every day and i am very selective about my shoes and this one seems like it will do the job. One other thing is that it does not come with a insole you would have to purchase insole separately.

Good shoes

I really liked this boot. For the most part it felt wonderful on my feet. Unfortunately I have very skinny heels (feet shaped like triangles). These shoes gave me the same problem as 90% of the boots, sneakers, and dress shoes I try on; my heel slips too much. I tried various lacing methods and couldn't fix it. However, since this is a common occurrence for me it's hard to blame it on the shoes. Otherwise these were fantastic, and I like their look.

Hugh Disappointment - Serious Hikers Should Avoid These Boots

Let me start by saying that I am a fan of Scapa hiking boots. I've had several pairs of Scarpa Kailash GTX (used for frequent hikes and light backpacks) as well as a pair of Zanskar GTX (used for week-long heavy backpacks), and all have performed wonderfully. So, I ordered a pair of Zodiac Plus GTX hiking boots fully expecting that they would be as good, or better, than my other Scarpa boots. What a disappointment! The sole material is very thin, and very susceptible to damage by sharp rocks, like the broken traprock I hiked on yesterday. After less than 20 miles of hiking the Vibram (R) soles have become severely damaged. Several lugs have sheared completely off, in one place revealing the underlying yellow mid-sole material. Some lugs remain attached as flaps. In the arch of one boot there is even a slit-like puncture that has exposed the underlying orange midsole material. (See photos.) I expect to get hundreds of miles out of a boot, and it is clear these boots will be incapable of that. So they are being returned. Due to the fragility of the sole material, I cannot recommend these boots to any serious hiker, even though they do look good, are comfortable and have provide good traction on dry rock. (I never got to try them on wet rock.)
