Gorgeous and comfortable boots. They need a sole insert for foot support
Have lived near the beach for 45 years. Most of that time owning dogs. These shoes are game changers in the winter months. In Northern California, in the summer I can wear sandals/shorts when I walk my dog in the mornings on the beach. We have some really fun off-leash areas around town and during the summer I have no problem following her through shallow streams or getting the ball/stick if she leaves it too close to the water. In the winter we’ve always had a complete different experience. If I’m wearing my rain gear we wouldn’t go for very long walks, because the boots just aren’t comfortable enough. If it’s not raining I’d wear anything else. I’ve tried regular Ugg boots. They’re super comfortable but beach walks are a great way to ruin those expensive boots quickly. I’ve tried the cheap knock off versions of uggs. Or cheap boots that claim to be waterproof. They’re easier to replace but not very comfortable. And not very waterproof.Every other pair of morning beach shoes I’ve tried has had some sort of drawback. And I’ve never found anything that is the complete combination of warm/comfortable/stable/waterproof.Enter these guys.Every morning I’m able to strap them on before I leave the front porch. They’re always clean because, like the dog, they can be rinsed off by the garden hose.We can walk anywhere on the beach together, similar to the summer in shorts/sandals, because I can go long distances and cross streams at their shallow points. In normal shoes when you hit a stream you either turn back or have to hop over some sort of sketchy rock combos. But these guys just plow through, with the stability you want to not feel like you’re gonna tip over.I’m sure there are other really comfortable rain boots out there, but for beach walking in the winter mornings these really check all the boxes. The high top sides keep sand from getting in (a lot better than uggs, which have a loose top). The laces are the grab/pull type. The hooks are all well built, as you’d expect from Sorel. There’s just no drawbacks with these shoes, on the beach in the cold/rain. They’re comfortable enough to go as far as you want on hard or soft sand. Stable enough to not twist your ankles. Agile enough to run/play around plenty, and hop up ledges/rocks/tree stumps. And then they also keep you super warm and dry. And when you get home you just rinse em off with the hose in fifteen seconds. No idea why my dad didn’t have a pair when I was growing up. I remember Sorels, for sure, but they are/were more of a snow brand. Glad I finally found them though. I can’t even imagine anything being much better designed for what I use them for.
Awesome, warm boots.
Do you want a big pair of warm slippers you can wear out in the show and slush to keep your feet warm and dry? Do you want them to look cool with your pants both over or under the upper? Then you'll be very happy with these. Do you want a serious boot to protect your feet in harsh winter conditions? Do you beat your boots up and expect them to last without consequence? Look elsewhere. What they are:-A fashion boot with a cool classic look that works pretty well at keeping your feet warm and dry in winter.-Pretty warm (think 400G level warmth) and reasonably water proof.-Very comfortable. They feel like big slippers.-Clunky. Hard to drive in.What they are not:-A serious utility boot. The sole is thinner than you think and the nylon upper provides pretty minimal support. I wouldn't trust the sole to hold up walking over sharp rocks or hiking. But it's fine for snow and every day use.-Seriously warm. The felt liner is nice, but it's lacking in warmth compared to modern thinsulate lined boots.-Form fitting. They're loose and sloppy, even if you size down. You won't be wearing these for winter hiking or as a cold weather work boot. The thin nylon upper doesn't provide any support and the sole is pretty thin and not really up to the task of hard use over the long term. The fit is sloppy and even when sizing down, your foot kind of meanders around in the boot as you walk. This makes them comfortable, but not for long periods of walking, or anything that requires support. You will be wearing them as an every day boot in cold weather, and/or snow and slush. Even with the sloppy fit, they're super comfortable. Again, like big warm slippers you can wear outside. You can wear them outside shoveling, out to the bar, out to a friend's house, or anything else that doesn't really challenge the longevity of the construction and materials too much. Sorel makes other boots that are very robust, heavy duty, and for serious use. This is not one of them. This is high on fashion, high on comfort, and has enough warmth and isolation from the elements to use as an everyday boot in winter. It will keep your toes warm down to the 30ºF range or so with normal wool socks (lower with real thick ones). If you take care of them, the rubber should hold up and keep you dry. If you beat them up, they will fail eventually.I'm happy to have them and love them. But I have other boots for when I need serious footwear to protect my feet in harsh conditions. They're good boots, but understand what they are before purchasing.
Bought these for a trip we are going on in a month to Iceland. With warm socks, these are great! I’ve worn them outside for hours at a time with normal socks on and my toes stay warm for like an hour and then start getting a little cold. With the right socks, they’re fine. They are water proof, lace up nicely, and keep snow/water out of the inside.I wear a size 11 Nike. I ordered these in a 10.5 and they fit good. A tiny bit of room for some thick socks. I would recommend these boots. I like them, they look good, and appear well made. Will update if anything changes on these!
The fit great (size 11 - Nike, etc..) and as expected. Very comfortable.
Sorel’s are the best but be sure you go a full size up. Heart breaker to get them and they are too small. Need room for big socks.
