Pain free comfort at a low cost

I've had these shoes for three weeks and I can say that my initial impressions are good. For background, I work in a machine shop 10 hours a day, 4 days a week. I mostly stand and walk on concrete floors, although there are cushioning mats at most of the machines.I got these shoes because safety shoes are a requirement and the CAT branded shoes I was wearing for only 4 months were extremely uncomfortable. My chief complaint was that the toe box was too narrow, as in it tapered down too much from about the mid point of the shoe to the tips of the toes. This would cause pain on the outside of my big toes around the nail area. Also, my socks would start to develop holes from rubbing the inside of the shoe which was kind of rough to be honest. These shoes were 110 dollars and I was very disappointed with them. I had CAT shoes before and they were pretty good, so I don't know what changed. Whatever it was, it was for the worse.I bought these SPIEZ shoes based on good reviews, especially regarding comfort. They have a wide (really what I would call a normal sized) toe box. It's roomy enough without giving the appearance of clown shoes. I don't have wide feet and not one pair of shoes of any type that I have owned have ever been labeled as "Wide".They are extremely light. I've had light work shoes before, but these are like wearing some kind of slippers is the best way I can describe it. They have a composite toe so you get the protection but not the weight of steel. That's a plus for someone that walks a lot at work.So far they are holding up. I hope that the inside doesn't tear around the heel area. I've had cheap and expensive shoes and boots do that in less than a year, resulting in torn socks over and over again. Also, I hope the outsole doesn't become unglued. If those two things don't become issues, and the comfort being already there (for me anyway), then I'll come back for seconds. If I can keep a pair of shoes for a year and they're comfortable, I would say that they're good shoes. Two years and I'm over the moon. At 35 bucks, these shoes are some of the most comfortable ones I've ever worn, even though when I first saw them I had my doubts. Putting them on erased that almost immediately. I had no break in period and my toe pain ceased the first day I wore them full time.I've had all the expensive name brands you can think of...CAT, Reebok (those were really uncomfortable), Timberland, Wolverine, Redwing...you name it, I've wore it. These SPIEZ shoes hang right with all of them, and probably trump them in the comfort department in my opinion. And at 35 dollars they cost, on average, a third and in some cases a fourth of what the aforementioned brands cost.To summarize: Light, roomy toe box, comfortable. If they last 6 to 8 months I'll be pleased because of the price. If they last a year or more, I will definitely be a repeat customer. I went strictly by reviews when I bought these, never having heard of this brand. Those customers were right. I hope my review helps someone find a comfortable pair of shoes for their aching feet. Get a pair and try them, you might be pleasantly surprised.

Overall performance

I do anywhere from 8-11.5 miles per day at work. The insole that came with them didn’t last a month and developed a hole right in the center. Though, attributed it to my cadence and work. Replaced just that, but the rest of it has remained intact. Comfort wise it’s ok. Won’t complain for as many miles I put on them per day.

Very comfortable and terrific value!

I nearly passed on these shoes because the price seemed almost too low! I'm a 10.5 W, and most cheap shoes are way too narrow for me. These shoes however fit great right out of the box and require no "breaking in" period. They are certainly wide enough and are, if anything, a bit roomy. This is actually an advantage because I like work shoes with room enough for heavy wool socks. The only (minor) complaint I have is that the soles could use a bit more padding. So if you plan to be on your feet all day you might want to invest in an insole pad. I didn't gig them a star for this because the shoes are otherwise a terrific value.

The barefoot shoe of the steel toe world!

I have wide, flat feet and I love these shoes! I work 10hr shifts in a warehouse and my previous shoes were killinggg my feet. The steel toe was making the tips of my big toes go numb over time, rubbing the sides of my pinky toe raw. They were heavy and clunky. I tried these shoes with low expectations, and oh my gosh -- they are life changing!! My feet hardly ache anymore until near the end of the day. My toes have ample room inside the toebox and don't rub anywhere. These shoes have a low drop and are lightweight. The soles let you "feel" the ground underneath, thus my barefoot shoe comparison. (Probably not good for pierce resistance/sharp debris, so depends on your warehouse.) I wear a 10.5 Mens and got a size 11. They fit great and are roomy. The sides of the shoes are soft shell and let my wide foot expand when I step down. They also don't have any arch at all, which is important to me and my flat feet (I cannot do a high arch). Also, since they are composite toe they don't set of the metal detector at my facility. There are only two downsides: they are kinda cheap overall, but I don't mind buying them over and over again because of how perfect they are. They also don't have very good slip resistance. But otherwise, these shoes are absolutely fantastic and my feet are so happy!

Overall, its a okay choice

I've had the shoe now for about a month. The shoe is great for going though metal detectors, It has a basic insole, if you have flat feet or just want some cushion you'll need better insoles, I walk around 15 miles a day and I've got better insoles. The back heel/ collar padding doesn't hurt, but the cushioning on it is slowly disintegrating, but I'm tough on shoes. Compared to steel toe, the composite toe is lighter. Color and style looks decent. I don't really care about style though. Overall, if need a shoe that's affordable its a okay choice.
