Nice boot, good on the foot, SIZE UP
Detailed review:I do a ton of city walking, so I thought these might be a good "walk all day" boot. I liked that these were a totally unique style. Many brown-colorway low boots look too cowboy or too 2016 to me, while these to me read as more 80s vibes, which I like. I had a bad feeling when the shoebox literally fell apart as I took it out of the shipping box, but the boots appear well-made. Quality, super soft leather. That leather smell. They do look just like the photos, but to me the red "stripe" pops out more in person. In terms of fit, they were very comfortable to try on. Even after just a few minutes walking around the house, I wanted to keep them on. Surprisingly lightweight. Though the description says there is arch support I would say there is no arch support whatsoever, the opposite -- rather than it being flat, it just has two very cushioned areas under the ball of the foot and the heel. I think those will do very well to keep the shoe comfortable (it is very squishy) but because of the sensation that my arch is floating I may want a different insole. The leather is very soft and creased after just wearing it for a bit (so I was less sure that they were a return than after I saw the shoebox). I am a size 10, verrrrry occasionally a size 9.5, and I followed the directions and sized up to a 42/11. I think they are a good fit now with socks on and I wouldn't take a different size. I have wider legs and ankles and they were just a bit snug so I zipped the boot down slightly. I think most people would find them to be normal, and there is a nice stretchy bit that's incorporated so well into the design you almost miss it.My only gripes are that I'm not sure if the leather will look positively or negatively worn in but it will definitely be worn in, the slight lack of arch support, and that the inner lining feels a bit cheap. On the whole, a really nice boot but the red doesn't match with a lot of my wardrobe so I'll have to consider if I'll get enough use to make it worth it. However, I had never heard of the brand Spring Step before and I'll be adding them to my roster. I hope they make more similar designs.
