Best Teva’s I’ve ever owned

Best Teva’s I ever owned. I have planar fasciitis and these have a great arch. No pain! The foot bed is smooth and suede filled. The straps are really nice. Better than the base version, much better! I’d buy these again and again! But I’m sure they’ll last me several years before I need to.

Great all terrain sandal for a great price

This is the first pair of Teva Hurricanes I've owned, but not my first Tevas, and I absolutely love them. I normally wear a size 12.5, but since these don't come in half sizes, I ordered a 13. The 13 gives me an extra 1/4" or so on the heels and toes, which I prefer, but some may like them a bit more snug. The straps are high quality and feel very strong; however, it does take a little time and fiddling to get them adjusted to your foot. Once they are adjusted, they are quite comfy. The velco is very strong and sticky, but only time will tell how well it holds up. The soles are firm, yet flexible, and provide a fair amount of arch support. The tread on the soles it surprisingly resilient; I spent a couple days fishing in them, and they provide great traction even on wet concrete boat ramps. One note: they do require a little break-in time to get your feet accustomed to them, especially if you're new to wearing sandals. I had a couple spots that were starting to rub a bit sore (this was after ~8 continuous hours of wear), but with some additional adjustment and more time in them, the problem resolved itself.Overall this is a great shoe that serves its purpose whether you are on the trail, in the water, or even just walking the dog. I'm looking forward to spending a lot more time in them.

OK around town sandals

I purchased these expecting to use them as a hiking sandal. The first time that I wore them, the rigid straps dug into my feet and left a blister and some hot spots after about a mile of walking on dry, mostly flat ground. I tried them again after my feet healed, and I am able to walk several city miles in them and they are comfortable. They provide good support, and I seemed to have gotten used to the rough straps. I recently wore them for a week of canoeing and portaging in the Boundary Waters. That did not go so well. The straps are abrasive against wet feet, and tore my feet up on the portages. Traction on wet rocks is average at best. I can recommend these for casual street wear and basic summer footwear. I do not recommend these for hiking or use where you will be in and out of the water.

Second Pair - First Lasted 5 years and 4 Continents

What's standout great about this particular style of Teva is the lightweight minimalism. They are simple, fit well and are the closest thing to going barefoot while still giving you protection and traction.I hike California mountain trails in them every weekend, and have worn them for all of our traveling to Europe, Asia and South America. They are versatile, going from mountain to beach easily. It's gotten to where I rarely ever wear any other casual shoe. I'm spoiled by these sandals. My first pair has now worn down to the point that the strap is separating from the sole, but I'm not disappointed that they are worn out. Instead, I am amazed at how much it took to finally wear them out. So, I'm buying another pair. For those reviewers who had issues with the strap rubbing them, I'd suggest a different size. Also the strapping material gets considerably softer with a bit of time to wear in......Update 06/11/12.....I'm wearing my second pair now. My old pair were so soft that I had forgotten that these straps can be a little rough going at first. The straps are made from a material similar to a heavy-duty seat belt. They can certainly be chafing if you wear them hard right away without breaking them in.What I did is wear them around the house (sock-less) at first, for progressively longer periods, but not long enough to chafe, until the straps softened up. This took 3 or 4 days for me until I was ready to wear them out for an extended period with no fear of discomfort.Took them hiking day before yesterday. It was a pretty rugged hike: several miles up and down steep dirt and rock trails. I wore no socks, and the new Hurricanes did great. Terrific traction and no chafing.Hope that helps other buyers.

My favorite footwear

I love Teva's. I purchased my first pair back in 1998 to take with me on a trip to South East Asia. As part of the trip, I went to Java in Indonesia and on a spur of the moment decision decided to climb the volcano Mount Merapi. As I didn’t bring any hiking boots and the tennis shoes I did bring were low on tread, I elected to go on the climb with some trepidation with my new Tevas. We got picked up at 5am in the morning and drove an hour to reach the base of the volcano at 6am. I think the sun just began to peak over the horizon as we started our climb. The guide thought I was a complete fool as did most of the rest of those on the climb who were made up of hardcore European hiking fanatics with serious boots. We ascended the steep slippery mountain terrain in some places literally pulling ourselves up the mountain side by grabbing the trunks of the vegetation. With my Tevas, I managed to keep up without killing myself. A hiker in our group told me I should send a letter to Teva when I returned to tell them how the sandals held up as he was quite impressed.Since then I have purchased 5-6 pairs of Tevas and wear them until their soles wear out. The one thing I notice is my original Tevas which I still have have never worn out. I think the tread has separated from the sole, but overall the tread is in good shape and if I took them to a shoe repair place they would be rather decent when professionally glued back together. New pairs of Tevas don’t last as long as the old ones I purchased. I believe Teva has reduced the price to drive sales, but in reducing the price has also reduced the quality. Still, given how comfortable they are and that they remain fairly durable, I remain a loyal and satisfied customer.
