Near Perfection, right of the box.
I'm SO amaze as to how well these work shoe fits. Super comfy with a perfect arch and heel support. No break-in period as these darn shoe are almost a perfect fit - right-out-the-box. Good pairs of [work] wool socks and these shoe are a perfect match as I have found out. I typically wear a 8.5 size but got the 9 instead, as I'm not familiar with this brand of footwear. It is tiny bit loose but I don't think that would a problem in the summer months, as I tend to wear lighter/thinner cotton socks during the summer months. IF you work in a warehouse setting or at the USPS, get these instead - much cheaper.

Excellent Shoe -- Except for Top Lacing Grommet
Seems to me (after reading several other reviews) that there is "more than one version" of this product being sold -- one reviewer observed that a lacing grommet was poorly-attached and pulled-out the first time the shoes were laced; while my experience was exactly the opposite: that the top grommet is so well-fastened and "robust" that it causes pain and must be skipped entirely when lacing.These shoes are (apparently) tough and attractive and built to remain so -- I have worn them for exactly one work-week, standing on concrete and constantly moving, and there is no sign anywhere that they are weakly constructed, poorly-sewn, or otherwise defective. Nice to see this level of workmanship, wherever they are made.Additionally, I have felt absolutely no fatigue or discomfort due to shocks transmitted through the sole, insole or foot-bed. These shoes are definitely built to give one great footing and "a comfortable ride" on surfaces not conducive to human foot traffic. VERY high marks for comfort in an industrial or institutional setting.But the top lacing grommet (made of heavy plastic and extremely well-anchored in the leather upper) is TOO strong and inflexible -- and when I laced through it, the top edge of the shoe (including the grommet) pushed into the front of my ankle by the end of the day, causing pretty significant discomfort.Early in the work week I realized this, and skipped the top grommet while lacing -- but the result (since the shoes were not yet broken-in) was a feeling that they might slip off, and that they provided insufficient stability. But now that the leather uppers are starting to break in, and now that they conform to the shape of my foot better, I can skip the top grommet without this problem.Of course, I should NOT have to do that -- if the grommet were correctly-placed, it would add to the stability of the shoe without causing discomfort.So, my suggestion to the manufacturer: move the top grommet down a few millimetres so that the leather above it has room to flex and so that it no longer cuts into the feet of working people.Otherwise, these seem like great, comfortable shoes that will deliver many months of tough service!

comfortable shoe at a fair price
The Thorogood ASR shoe is a solid,comfortable shoe at a fair price.I walk all day long in these shoes without any pinching or soreness of any kind.The insole absorbs the shock when walking without being too spongy.The fine textured sole provides good traction even on wet surfaces.The cheaper name brand shoes I've tried were either too narrow for my wide feet or came apart where my feet bend.I replace the shoes I wear on the job once a year, as recommended by a podiatrist.After a year of use these shoe have visible wear at the back of the heal area from sliding my foot in and out,but there are no breaks in the outer shell or the sole.The Thorogood ASR shoe is comfortable ,durable and fits my wide feet better than most other shoes I've tried.

Most Comfortable Shoe in Initial Fit Ever Worn!
I bought a pair of these when they were first offered for sale. They were then and are now the most comfortable shoe I have ever owned. I wore the first pair till the soles came off (many years). The quality is still there. I am sure this pair will give me the same long lasting comfort and support I have come to expect from Thorogood.

I purchased these for my work shoes, but they are bit stiffer than expected. I can only have them on for a short period of time and then I have to give my ankles a break. They need a break in period. I think in time they will be more flexible. They are very sturdy shoes. Thank you.

Serious design flaw!
DO NOT BUY THIS SHOE! I ordered these shoes thinking they would be of the same quality that I had been wearing for years. I work in law enforcement and have worn Thorogood uniform shoes for many years. This product arrived and met my initial expectations for approximately 10 minutes. The very first time I laced them up, one of the eyelets pulled away from the shoe, thus rendering the shoe unwearable. The eyelets are constructed of light duty webbing material, sewn to the show with on layer of thread. I literally have had more difficulty removing tear away tags from clothing. This is a serious design flaw for a shoe that is supposed to be durable and long lasting. I am extremely disappointed with this product and would not recommend to anyone.
