Mailman's Dream Shoes
Now that I've worn these shoes for more than a year it's time to give my opinion. They are simply the best shoes I have ever had. Not by just a little but by a wide margin. I wore Thorogood shoes almost exclusively during my 25 year career as a carrier for the USPS and I'm quite sure that if these shoes had been available during that time I could have avoided several knee and foot surgeries. They are light, supportive, very comfortable and show few signs of wear even though I still walk a lot.Like other commenters I was a little concerned that they were made in China but that doesn't seem to detract from their quality at all. In fact these shoes outshine even the usual excellence of other Thorogood shoes. I couldn't be happier. There are other shoes that look almost exactly like these but are made in the USA. These are called Thorogood Softstreets Oxfords and are certified by the USPS.Update 9/20/14: I can't praise these shoes enough. Even though I walk constantly in them, they seem like they will never wear out. The soles are still good and they look brand new when I polish them. I'm beginning to have a lot of respect for things made in China, like these shoes and my Apple computer.Update 3/11/15: These shoes have been in constant use now for almost two years and still have some wear left in them, but it's time to order another pair. I certainly got my money's worth.

I purchased these shoes in May 2014. At first the fit was somewhat tight for my regular size (8M) and made them a little uncomfortable to walk in for long time and distance. After several times of use, they broke in and are now very comfortable and still look good. I think that being able to get two years out of them is not bad. It appears to be the trend that as the years go by, companies cut corners to make more profits. Some reviewers have complained that this release does not measure up to the exact same model they bought in the past. This is the first time I've had this brand and I'm satisfied with my purchase. I recommend them and may buy them again if later releases do not deteriorate further in quality..

Light but sturdy.
I was real surprised how light the shoes were when I pulled them from the box and did have brief concerns about their durability but after wearing them on the job for a few weeks I am pleased to see they are very sturdy and will no doubt last me quite a while.

Good Duty Shoes
I ordered these because I needed decent footwear for a job where I walk around a lot on foot patrols. I needed something that would protect my feet, be comfortable for hours of walking, and look appropriate with a uniform. Since I didn't want to spend a lot, this ruled out a pair of Danners. These Recon Oxfords fit the bill. The price was right, they shipped fast, are true to size, and they have worked out great so far keeping my feet dry and protected.The only disappointment is that they are not made in the USA like other Thorogood shoes. I guess that's why they were so affordable.Recommended for security, police, and anyone else who needs a tough, protective shoe.

I must have a comfortable shoe, I am on my feet all day
This is the second pair I have ordered through Amazon. The first 9.5 pair fit perfectly, these fit but they are somewhat smaller. I have worn them now for about 10 days, and I may not order another pair. Which greatly saddens me, because I prior to ordering from you, I had found these at another Officers shop. After my second pair they said they were discontinued. When much to my surprise I found them on Amazon! I must have a comfortable shoe, I am on my feet all day.

Not a good fit for me.
I had read the many positive reviews and had higher expectations. Tried them on and the toe box was a little narrow for me, but I like 'em wide. The materials were less flexible/supple than I had expected. Hard like plastic rather than pliable like leather should be. I returned these shoes to try something else.
