Best Rounded Boots Out There

Love these boots! I've tried many different boots including Daner, Kean, Salomon, and Scarpa. These work best for me for a few reasons: 1. They fit my feet really well. This is the most important aspect of any boot. 2. They're plenty light--not super tough, but more than enough protection for most hikes. I have a pair of Salomon's that are lighter, but those are glorified sneakers. Light weight is important to me and I don't need a super stiff sole, but sometimes I want boots with protection from rocks and a bit of ankle support. These fit the bill. 3. They keep water out even when submerged. 4. Pretty good grip dry, wet, or snow. There are a few negatives, but nothing that stopped me from buying a second pair after the first one wore out:1. The soles flex easily. This makes it easier to walk but if you have sensitive feet and plan on hiking really rocky terrain, perhaps consider something with a thicker sole. 2. I went through 3 sets of laces. Obviously, I liked the boots enough that it was worth it to keep replacing them. To be fair, the stock laces lasted a couple years, but cheap laces I replaced them with didn't. The last set of laces I got are quality nylon laces from REI and they've held up well. Get kevlar laces if you're worried about it. 4. The arch support is okay, but Superfeet inserts made these boots perfect. I used the orange ones with a bit of extra padding.

Comfortable and keeps your feet warm and dry!

Update: March 14, 2017 - I was outside for over an hour in knee-deep drifts with these boots laced all the way up and my feet are dry and toasty warm. I wear these boots from mid-Fall through the Winter and well into Spring and they still look good.I have worn these in deep snow, stepped through puddles and my feet stay warm and dry. I wear them all the time... while snow shoveling, snow blowing, hiking, shopping, you name it... very comfortable. The only reason why I didn't rate them 5 stars is because the right one chafes the back of my ankle... that might be because of the position of my foot when I drive... I'm on the road 2-3 hours a day frequently in stop and go traffic.Otherwise, a great pair of boots at a great price. I would buy these again.

Great boots, Comfy right out of the box

It's been at least ten years since I bought a pair of hiking boots. I had to replace my last ones because they finally gave in. I needed a pair of boots in a pinch because I was hiking 8 miles this past weekend. As usual Amazon got these to me very quickly (gotta love Prime). I got them and the toes on each boot were scuffed up (cosmetic only). I took them home and gave them two good coats of waterproofing spray (you must always do this kids, for any outdoor gear, don't trust factory waterproofing).I went on the 8 mile hike and they were amazing. Very comfortable, great ankle support, great grip. I'm of the old school way of thinking that you have to break in a pair of boots before you take them on a long hike. Not necessary here. They were good to go right out of the box. I will clean them and hit them with some more waterproofing spray (because I like them to be well treated). I'm very happy with these and I hope that they last a long time.

I find them to be extremely comfortable, because the timberland-mfg sole is more flexible than ...

These have been my standard winter boot for years, except for when it gets real cold. I find them to be extremely comfortable, because the timberland-mfg sole is more flexible than vibram. That makes a big difference (for me, at least) when hiking over rough, rocky, uneven terrain; i.e. since the sole gives a bit, you are less likely to twist your ankle. The downside is that they wear out quicker than Vibram, but since these shoes are reasonably priced, I just by a new pair every winter and use last winter's for walking on pavement. Another downside is that the toe is not well protected, so it can get torn up. I remedy that by coating the toe are with protective goo (I forget the name.) All in all, these are great shoes. One more thing: I ordered 10-W this year based on a new Amazon widget that helps you size you shoe (it's on this page). That's a half size larger than I have ordered in the past and they are much more comfortable. Sothx, Amazon.

Pretty good, but maybe look for a slightly wider size

Firstly, these seem to fit slightly narrower across the foot but pretty generously roomy lengthwise. I've worn them twice so far on day long hikes and the performance has been pretty decent except for a couple of things that I will get into in a second. Don't let these put you off however as your mileage may very. This is a GREAT hiking shoe. I have other footwear with goretex liners and I imagine these would do a great job keeping my feet dry in the rain or crossing streams. The construction is solid, the sole is grippy in mud but doesn't get clogged and cleans up nicely. Keep in mind that the leather also usually takes a little bit to break in - I found them significantly more comfortable on my second day-long hike. Having said that these are my first impressions (and I will try to update this review over time):1) The fit is kind of narrow across the foot - may pay to get the wider option, I found my right pinky toe to get a little scrunched up and blistered - but not too bad. On the second outing it felt a lot better so they may loosen up after the leather is broken in (to be expected with leather footwear I suppose).2) The insoles are tiny and don't seem to absorb much shock, after a pretty strenuous day long hike over rocky terrain it seems I got a bit of a bone bruise on my heel. I will try playing around with extra thick sock or 2 sock combinations and might look at getting some gel insoles. I'm a pretty big guy and I like to clamber around a bit, so it may also be a walking style thing - but something to keep in mind.Bottom line these shoes are rock solid and are excellent value for money. In New Zealand they retail at $NZD 299 ($USD 232!). We get pretty ripped off here downunder, so to pick them up on Amazon at this price, even with the international delivery fee, is great! I will confidently say that I wouldn't mind paying full price for these shoes.Depending how they hold up and how the stitching goes I will probably look at getting another pair, however maybe in an 11 E this time.
