TL;DR: Timbs are great. Buy them.
I've resisted buying Timberland boots for years. I have a disability; it's impossible or difficult for me to wear most boots, and I was 99.99% sure these wouldn't be any different. When my old rainboots bit the dust, I caved and bought these hoping they might fit the bill for waterproof boots. I've been on the hunt for "stompy" boots for almost five years, and everything I found was impossible to wear. A friend assured me these weren't heavy boots and I should be able to wear them. Well okay, but probably not. I chose the Nellie boots because I figured the ankle boot would be easier to pull on, and I liked how they looked with skinny jeans.I prepared myself to sadly print another return label and cry over my stupid feet, but wow, was I wrong. Now I understand why people wear these; they're comfortable and easy to pull on, durable, waterproof, and go with just about any outfit I could put together. These boots aren't heavy at all, and I have no trouble lifting my feet even with my terrible ankles. The tongue is attached to the inside of the shoe for waterproof-ness, but the top of the boot opens with plenty of space for even my inflexible feet. The shoes didn't come laced all the way up; I relaced them all the way because I thought they were a bit floppy at first, but with tight laces they fit fine. The tongue of the shoe does rub on your ankle. I wish there had been more padding behind the tongue to prevent this. Go for the regular boot style if you're planning on wearing these sans socks. The good news is that a thick sock works fine to protect your ankle. I also wish the laces were longer. I know I laced mine through every hole and that's not the "cool" thing to do; the laces seem to anticipate you'll lace them through every other hole, and they actually come in-box like that. Whatever. I prefer not tripping over myself. You know what isn't fashionable? The hospital bill I'd be paying after I ate pavement. Some reviewers said to size down, but I bought my normal 6.5 size and didn't have any issues. I have plenty of space for thick socks when it's cold, but they still fit if I wear normal weight socks.Buy these suckers. They're comfy, lightweight, and basically indestructible. Plus you'll look fly, or whatever the kids say these days.

Good quality, and fit to size
*Updating after 7 years!* These shoes still are in fantastic shape. Granted, I do not wear them every day, but 7 yrs later.. thought I would come back and let you know, these are quality boots:) They still look great!!Original review:I bought my regular size, which is women’s 8, and they fit fine. This is a very sturdy shoe. I have always worn Dr Martens, but they just suck in quality now, so I went with these. But wow..they are heavy! Great quality so far after over a month. They are waterproof, I can attest to that. Only complaint is the rounded soft part at the ankle is a bit constricting, and they are heavy. I sit in all kinds of weird positions..lol..I sit yoga style cross legged a lot, but these are just “too much shoe” to do that comfortably. If you are buying for work and need a sturdy shoe, these are probably great.. if you are buying as a regular, everyday-ish type shoe, I would probably go for a lower style, not ankle.

Amazing all purpose boots
These boots are my go - to. This is my second pair and I think they deserve a review now. I used one pair for an entire year working on the production floor at my job. This includes tons of wood dust, wet paint, and heavy objects. I'm not recommending them in place of steel toed boots, but they've done the trick for me at my job. Not only that, but I felt sturdy and supported enough to hike with these. They took quite the beating over a year, and the only reason that I replaced them was because I wore the back soles down too much to have tread/walk evenly. The rest of the boot was completely intact, and were still water resistant. During heavy rains my socks never got wet. I wore them in shallow snow when it wasn't able to get in from the top of the boot. I can't recommend them enough because they're also so fashionable! I've cleaned them up and worn them out with my nice outfits too. These are the kind of boots you don't have to worry about getting dirty, but you can clean them up if you need to. They felt a little heavy at first but I quickly got used to them.Oh and also important to note, they take 2 weeks to break in. I got horrible sores on the top of my ankles from the tongues being so stiff when they were new. I used heavy socks and Band-Aids to get through that. Once you get past that part and break them in they will not fail you. I bent the tongues back and forth to try and speed that up.

Good boot, laces not so much
I bought these and they came a day before I went to Seattle for a trip. Wore them 6 days with no breaking-in and they were pretty comfortable. I did replace the insoles immediately with my favorite Dr Scholls though. The edge on the tongue rubbed when I had ankle socks on, but I wore long socks most of the trip anyway. The laces felt short. I couldn't double-knot and towards the end of the trip they kept coming untied. I'll probably replace them. For the good, the shoe itself was comfortable, the padded cuff was nice, and I tend to have my toes rub in shoes but didn't have that problem. They look cute and went well with skinny and straight leg jeans. Part of why I bought them was waterproofing, and I had zero problems in the rain and wet. We even went for a few easy, muddy hikes and I was happy to have them.I would recommend them.

Always Worth the Cost Boot
In my personal opinion everyone should have a pair of Timberland boots for the Fall and Winter months. They are great value for the money, the quality makes them strong and sturdy for different weather. They are comfortable and the leather with a spray protector will keep them looking brand new for years as long as you don’t over due water or snow exposure. They look great with jeans and sweats. I personally think your feet can get cold if out too long in the snow and waterproofness is just okay for me.
