Minimalist, zero drop, true to size, lightweight, can be used for gymwork, running, walking

I consider this shoe as a transition one to barefoot shoe, without any cushion. After reading a ton of researches, I decided to have this intermediate shoe before going with something without cushion at all. And it works so far. It is very comfortable shoe - I enjoyed walking around in it. And as to running - my previous running shoe had 24 mm stack, this has 14, this is not big of a difference, but I still feel that my gait changed a bit with it - cadence went up, and on the first runs I feel some muscles in my forefeet working differently. They are moderately snappy on wet surface, outsole looks solid, especially when you compare it with outsoles of other zero-drop brand starting with A - my last shoes from them started to show signs of wear only after 50k on asphalt. They fits well, toebox is really roomy, and heel and midfoot are secured. Great value for money, especially if you will be able to catch it with discount.

Great everyday shoe.

I really love these shoes. I do wish the inserts didn't have arch support, but once I replaced them, I rarely wear anything else. Very light, easy to get on and off. Just enough cushion to help me transition to barefoot. I would purchase these again.

Nice looking shoe, but not an option if you have wide (2E) feet

My feet are 8.5 (us) 2E with a high volume. These shoes have what looks like a wide toe box, but that is deceptive. Initially they seem very comfortable but 15-20 minutes later my foot is cramping and numb :(.Amazon recommended a 9. That is just way too narrow for my foot. The edge of my foot overhangs the sole by what feels like about 1/2” :(I returned the 9’s and tried a 9.5.The 9.5 was better, but my foot is still hanging over the edge of the sole, and with the contoured footbed, that overhang leads to discomfort, even when just sitting …Other than the fact they don’t fit wide feet, they are a very lightweight shoe that looks like it would be great for a narrower foot.

I wish the arch support were optional (otherwise a great shoe!)

If you're someone who's interested/looking into options for zero-drop and lower stack shoes, generally you're already going to be someone who's less concerned about high-cushion, high-support options that most of the rest of the shoe industry offer. While there are a ton of zero-drop options in the very low stack height range (≤10mm - read, Xero/Vivobarefoot) and in the medium-stack range (20 - 30mm), there are very few options in that range between 10 - 20mm, where you're not completely sold on walking barefoot but also don't have gobs of cushioning preventing your feet from getting the feedback they need to function properly. That's where the ST-5 comes in. Topo are still a relative newcomer to the shoe space alongside other entrants like Altra, but they have definitely cemented their place as a strong contender with a very predictable formula in all of their shoes. Not that all of their shoes exactly the same, but there are very specific things that they offer across most of their line, like a wide toe box, medium to prominent arch support with a relatively narrow midfoot, and very secure heel lockdown with little lace slip. That formula is alive and well in the ST-5, which is the latest iteration of Topo's ST line, which are meant to be their lowest-stack, most portable/packable offering. While the ST-4 was built very well, it wasn't very soft/comfortable, and it left my feet feeling pretty sore/chafed, whether with the relatively open stitching in the heel or the overly prominent arch support. The ST-5 does away with the open stitching and introduces much more skin-friendly materials while still being very packable and very light.Unfortunately, the arch support is still very prominent, which continues to leave me confused, since the purpose of a zero-drop shoe is largely to restore our bodies to proper alignment/posture and allow our feet to function similarly to how they would when barefoot. Our feet are not meant to have the arch held rigid/propped up, and even with a very comfortable insole, the arch support in these shoes still leaves my strong but flexible feet feeling very sore from being propped up all the time instead of being allowed to pronate/supinate normally while walking/running. It's possible that, with additional wear-in time, maybe the arch support would lessen a bit, but I don't know that I can muscle through whatever time would be needed to get to that point. That said, if you're used to wearing shoes with arch support but you're otherwise looking for a low-stack option that doesn't lower you all the way down to the near-barefoot level of a Xero or Vivobarefoot shoe, you may want to give these shoes a try. For me, I'll continue running/walking in my Xeros, hopeful that Topo eventually introduce a way to make the arch support optional in their shoes. It's literally the only thing keeping me from wearing their shoes more, because they're otherwise that good.

Good walking shoes for travel

These are great minimal running shoes. I personally use them for walking and travel, as they pack really well. The heel is easy to collapse, making them pack flatter in a bag. Yet they are comfortable if you don’t need too much stack height (cushion) below your feet. This is one reason I don’t prefer them for running. I’m 6’2” and almost 200 lbs and appreciate more cushion for running. These follow the regular Topo design of low drop and roomy toe box. But I do wish Topo Athletic made shoes in a “wide” as well, because I need to size up to get enough width across the ball of my foot. I happen to have a wide, low volume foot with a moderately high arch, so finding good running shoes for me, or shoes in general, can be a challenge. Overall, this model is a special use case for me—great walking shoes for travel or anytime I need to pack them inside something. Would buy again.

Kinda cheap shoes, high arches, widish.

Update 2025 Jan rubber peeling off the bottom of each shoe after 37 days of use.The material of these shoes definitely feel like they're going to fall apart in a few months. They have really high arches so if you don't like that or don't need it, I don't recommend them. They are wide toe box but if you're used to vivo or other barefoot shoes, they're not that wide.Overall for the cost not really worth it. $75-80 max is there value. After taxes I paid $125.... Far too much.
