I tried a wide in a different high quality brand, changing from a medium of the same model which had been excellent, due to foot size change. The other brand wide felt exactly the same on my foot as their medium, that is, they hurt. But the Vasque gave me the room needed both by my comfort and accurate fit according to proper measurement of my feet. I can't speak of durability yet for this pair, but previous Vasque, and I've had several, all lasted well.

They're decent as walking shoes, but wouldn't even attempt a hike in these

I bought these so I could finally retire my more than well worn out vasque breeze low gtx hiking shoes that I had for 6 years. I was worried that after several years and going with a different model that sizing would be different, but a 10 wide fit like it was made for me.After getting them on my feet to walk around the house to see if they were as comfortable as my old ones, two things became immediately obvious. First, as other reviews point out, these are in fact surprisingly noisy on hard interior floors, i.e. hardwood, tile, laminate, linoleum and so on. I'm not wearing these to sneak around silently, but it is just really annoying after a while when you sound like you're wearing high heels as you walk around. Second, where is the cushioning? These feel a lot like those dumb minimalist shoes that were all the rage a few years back. While walking in these, I felt the ground beneath me on the soles of my feet in all the worst spots. I'll use these as casual shoes for doing errands around town, but I would not dare try and go on a hike or even a long walk in these.
