Worth it

I didn't want to have to drive to the Very Fine Dance Shoes's LA showroom location, so I decided to order them online. While doing research before purchasing my first dance shoes ever, I saw a lot of reviews complaining about the Very Fine Dance Shoes brand and the quality of their products. I just chalk it up to the Internet being used as a soapbox for misplaced complaints as usual - hello people complaining on Amazon about shaving razors being "too sharp", I'm looking at you. But I digress. The shoes came in new condition and were even supported by rods and paper wadding to prevent them from becoming misshapen during transit. I ordered my usual shoe size and they fit comfortably. I spend about 2-3 hours a night for 3-4 nights a week learning dance at a beginner level and they've held well and have even netted me some compliments from the teachers and other students. I will say that my feet feel a lot better in these than when I was clomping around in dress shoes and squeaking across the floor in sneakers. For the people that complained about it being too tight, you should probably know that they are supposed to fit snugly to prevent slippage and forming blisters due to friction. They feel thin and light because they're just a protective layer and not actually dress shoes. But that's to help you move across the floor with more ease. For a better experience, I recommend that you be mindful about what kind of socks you wear with these. I've found that dress socks are ideal and that thin athletic socks are also okay. To prolong the life of the shoes and to mitigate unnecessary damage, I also recommend wearing your regular shoes as you walk into the dance studio and change into these dance shoes once you are inside. The felt material on the bottom isn't meant for everyday transit, especially when traversing concrete or asphalt.All-in-all, they are worth the investment. Ballroom Dancing can be an expensive hobby but, like most things, you also get back what you put into it.

Great fit, just don't last long.

Needed to replace laces with better but other than that, decent pair of dancing shoes.

Highly Recommended

I finally got serious about ballroom dancing with my wife. Our instructors kept recommending the shoes and now that I finally bought them I wish I had earlier. They had the size I want and are comfortable to dance in now that I am accustomed to the felt sole. I wouldn't go anywhere but a dance floor in them, but for that purpose they excel. I also like that they didn't require any break in. I do recommend using a shoe horn to put them on though as the leather is very soft and flexbile. My instructors who obviously dance all day say they get about a year of use out of them. If that is true I'll be an old man before they give out on me.

For Serious Dancers, Look Elsewhere

I've been dancing for more than 15 years, and would consider myself a somewhat serious dancer. These shoes are not made for serious dancers. As for the reason for my 1 star review:1. 2 stars deducted for the misleading advertising; Very Fine states multiple times that they have showrooms, warehouses and a HQ in California, yet they make no mention of the shoes themselves being made in China.2. 1 star deducted for the cheap materials which make up the shoe. On the second day using the shoes, I noticed that the heels began to make cracking sounds (like if you were stepping on glass). The cracking sounds actually are coming from the material used for the heel core (not the dancing shoe leather) but the material underneath the leather (or at the core) of the heel. The material is a white fiber glass-looking material (which I've never seen used for dance shoes). The fiber glass material (which is solid) seems to be either cracking or just seems to make the sound in general (it's hard to tell what is going on), but the sounds is extremely annoying.3. 1 star deducted for the leather on one of the heels coming off (on the 4 day using the shoes). My previous shoes (which were made in Italy), took multiple years (of heavy dancing) for the leather to start peeling off. For these shoes to do that in 4 days, is ridiculous, and just goes to show how shoddy the craftsmanship happens to be.In summation; though the shoes look (and are priced) to insinuate that they could be good (or decent) dancing shoes; they really aren't (unless you're a novice and only dancing rarely - and not for more than an hour at a time). The shoes themselves aren't uncomfortable, but they shouldn't be falling apart so quickly.Unfortunately, if you're looking for proper dance shoes, you'll have to pay at least twice (or three times) as much for something made in Italy (which though expensive, will last you many years).
