My first experience with this style from Vibram was a men's 38. They do note that the men's sizes are a bit wider than the women's so I expected a different feel with this pair. The men's 38 fits me like a comfortable slipper, a bit loose all around my foot. The women's 38 fits like a driving glove, nice and tight when brand new and more of a barefoot feel when walking than my looser fitting pair. I'm breaking them in today and I love them.
These shoes do run a bit small but they are comfortable once you get used to them and they really do offer the benefits they say they do. I can feel the difference in my muscles after running in these vs my regular running shoes.

This particular shoe was sent a whole size smaller than what I ordered but even if they had sent the right size it wouldn't fit. I ordered another similar pair and while the size was what I ordered it restricted my foot so much it hurt. The length fit fine but it was painfully tight over the top part of my foot. The attached picture is what my foot looked like after less than 3 minutes of wearing this shoe.I do have very high arches so maybe these shoes just arnt good for high arches. A larger size wouldn't work since they fit fine in the length of my foot.(again the correct size pair fit in the length. The wrong size shoes they sent I couldn't even get my toes in.)I am very sad because I have wanted a pair of these for 10 yrs but couldn't afford them. The quality of the shoe was great. They look really cool. I wish they made one for high arches. I'm returning both pair.
I don't wear my Vibrams to wade in a creek or to do yoga or to run marathons. I wear them to enable me to walk. They separate my toes, which after several decades of pointy-toed toes had pretty much grown together. That means I can walk. I bought a pair of Five Fingers last August at the suggestion of my podiatrist and I have worn them day in and day out ever since. If I'm wearing shoes that's what I'm wearing. I was reluctant to get another pair because I was concerned that the size might be wrong. I was so right. They're the same size as the first pair I bought. They're the size that according to the Vibram chart and the foot measurements I should have bought. They're almost two inches shorter than the first pair and so narrow I couldn't even get them on my feet, much less into the toes. I believe the manufacturer should at least make an effort to maintain size consistency from one model to another. I returned these shoes, but returning them IS NOT hassle-free and I won't even try another pair. Heaven knows what I'll do when the ones I'm wearing fall off my feet.
I wore these backpacking into the Grand Canyon which was 10 miles to the camp. They kept up with me just great! I also wore them as water shoes through the rivers and waterfalls, and they outlasted everyone else's that I was with. The only time they gave me blisters was when I wore them without socks.. Which is awkward when using them as water shoes, but just do it. Trust me
I ordered the same shoe in the same size, but this was at least 2 sizes too small. Vibram must have got the sizes wrong on this batch. I couldn't even get my foot in the shoe. They were returned immediately.
