Wish I would have bought these years ago!

Best hiking boots I’ve ever owned. I’ve always bought Columbia or Merells before and these blow those boots out of the water. Wish I splurged and bought these years ago. Super light weight and comfortable, great traction and realively decent water resistant qualities if you’re just splashing in some puddles and not just walking up a stream. I have slipped off a rock though and stuck half my foot in a creek and my feet stayed dry. Laces could have been made with some better material but they are comfortable in the ankles and don’t rub anywhere. I haven’t taken them to climb Mount Everest or anything but I’ve been on some pretty decent length hikes and I’ve never had any issues with comfort. The fit is pretty accurate and so far they’ve held up really well. The color is pretty. I would’ve preferred the maroon at the time, but they didn’t have those in my size when I ordered these maybe these could be made in some more neutral colors like cream or black for people that want something a little more basic But compared to a lot of other Altras these look far less obnoxious than others I’ve seen. They do take a little bir to get used to because of the drop, youre basically walking flat footed as opposed to most boots that have a little bit of a heel or lift to them, but I’ve actually come to really appreciate the way that my foot feels in them.

Very comfortable hiking shoes!

Super comfortable. Wide in the toe bed, which is what I wanted.

Great Shoe with Caveats

This is my fourth pair of Altra hiking "boots." My previous three pairs were the Lone Peak 4s, and they were the best hiking shoe of my (long) life. I've got all kinds of foot issues, the worst of which is arthritis on the top of one foot. I need a zero-drop shoe and a wide toe box. The lone peak 4s were the most comfortable shoe I've ever hiked in and they kept my after-hiking pain to a minimum. I couldn't wear them in the snow or in wet conditions though, because the Altras are only water resistant, not water proof.I was bummed at their discontinuance, but splurged on this iteration of the original. They are very comfortable, but there are some issues I've discovered after hiking quite a few times in them. Still, they are the most pain-free boots I own (I've got Vasque and Asolo boots as well). The grip on the sole is much improved too. Anyway, here are the things to consider:* You'll have to buy more quality laces. The ones that come with the boots are thin, cheap, and easily broken.* It's very difficult to get your foot in the boot unless you unlace them fairly far down the tongue area. I use a long metal shoehorn, but I'm not going to be bringing a shoehorn for an overnight backpack. Total pain in the rear.* This boot seems to cover more of the ankle area than the 4s, and it's stiff. I'm okay with it, but I am definitely hoping that it'll soften over time.

Five stars for comfort but downgraded for durability

I give these five stars for comfort and fit, but only three for durability. I used these as my dry-weather boots for about a hear and a half, which I'd guess was about a total of 400 miles of hiking, before both boots developed holes in the soles at the instep. I may try to repair with Shoo Goo, but I'd expect them to last longer. I'm torn about whether I'll order again since they are extremely comfortable and lightweight.

Suprising

I took the plunge and despite my severe plantar fasciitis went with... less.. support. I have hiked over 175 miles in these this year and not once had a flare. I think it has to do with the mobility of the foot and the ever changing point of impact. No quality issues and they have gone through rivers, mountains, strapped in crampons, mud, etc. The pink ish color never quite looked clean again. I went a full size up to allow for socks and swelling. I wish I had gone 1.5 sizes up. Lost my toenails on a 3d steep hike but havent had a problem on less rigorous hikes.

CHEAP LOOKING AND CHEAP FEEL

These $149.95 boots are cheap looking and feel cheap. They are a snug fit, too. Extremely disappointed in this product. The boot looks beautiful, rich and luscious on the Amazon website. I love suede. What you actually receive and what you see on the website are two very very different things. I am returning them. Appears to be false advertisement. I've paid a lot less for better-looking suede and footwear.

If you have a wide foot do yourself a favor and get yourself a pair!

My wife absolutely loves them! Our first hike that she wore them on was the Red River Gorge in Kentucky. We hiked about six to seven miles on a first outing with these boots. She loved them so much that I had to go home and order a pair for myself!
