Good traction, wide enough toe box, and heel not elevated
These hiking shoes have good traction and do not squish my toes. They also are zero drop meaning my weight is distributed evenly along my foot instead of pressure being put on the ball of my foot, which happens with most shoes where the heel is slightly higher than the toe portion. Got these because of plantar fasciitis and am able to hike 6 miles up and down hills with just a feeling of mild soreness or strain afterwards and no pain at all the next day. Got a 1/2 size bigger because the price was better than my regular size.

Durable, comfortable, and perfect for trail running or hiking
I absolutely love Xero shoes. I own several pairs now, and this Xero Trail Running Shoe has been one of my best purchases. I originally bought it because I needed a wide-toe shoe for hiking, but I also wanted something that worked for trail running. These do both beautifully.I’ve worn them almost every Saturday for hiking for over a year, and they’re still holding up great. The wide toe box provides my feet with ample room to spread naturally, and I appreciate the minimalist feel. I can feel the ground beneath me — every stone or tree root — but the shoes still provide enough protection so I never worry about bruising my feet.After wearing Xero shoes for more than a year, I honestly can’t go back to regular shoes. My feet have widened to their natural shape, and when I try to wear my old hiking boots or running shoes, my feet hurt. Upper materials were cheap
I got these because I was looking for a minimalist/barefoot type shoe with a little extra cushioning for trails. This shoe had such high reviews from many sources so I thought this was it.There are many good things about this shoe, but I was sorely disappointed in the material quality and construction. The waterproofing lines and toe bumper made of cheap plastic. When I bend my foot, the end of where the tongue is sewn causes an abrupt crease and digs uncomfortably into the top of the foot. The whole point of minimalist shoes is to allow full freedom of the foot, but this was making flexing the foot uncomfortable... And it didn't take much of a bend for it to dig; this happened with normal walking.At that same crease, it caused pointy bend in the plastic lining (see pics). This will cause it to easily tear the fabric and crack with use. I saw in an in-depth review from a shoe review site this exact thing happened. While the reviewer gave the shoe a good rating, he did mention the fabric ripped ( in that exact spot) prematurely.If a company is going to charge $120+ MSRP for a shoe, they should make it to last. I find more and more companies are cheapening products so they break before their time.The lugs were a little much for me. I was looking for a trail shoe with good grip, but these felt more like cleats. Online reviews said this gave good grip on the trails, so the lugs might be a plus for some, but for versatility, I felt the lugs were too much. That's neither a plus or minus towards the shoe, just my preference. I've had grippy trail shoes that didn't have such promenant lugs and didnt like the feel of these. The sole, itself, did seem to be nice quality, so no complaints there.The shoe itself fits perfectly and is good for toe spread on medium to slightly wider feet. The shoe itself felt supportive - enough room for movement, but not so much that would cause slipping on trails) It is very comfortable until I bend my foot. I loved the light cushioning from the insole. It's also a good looking shoe. I am amazed! I have bunions and general foot pain. I am on my feet most of the day M-F. By the end of the day, my feet are exhausted and painful. I ordered these shoes for hiking, but I decided to wear them for a day. I clean houses, so a comfortable shoe is important. I wore these shoes for 12 hours yesterday, and my feet were thankful. I also noticed my weight was balanced from toe to heel. Most shoes shifts my weight to my toes which just adds to the pain. I also experienced less low back and hip pain. My only complaint is they are not slip resistant. If you step on a slick/wet spot without caution, you will lose your footing. I’m hoping I can adjust, and be more aware of my steps to avoid any unwanted accidents. Despite this issue with traction, I still give this shoe five stars. The difference between this shoe and others is phenomenal. I’ve already ordered another pair of Xero sneakers to be my every day shoe.

Secure Fit for Rugged Walks—With some Tweaks
I chose these shoes for greater support when hiking or walking along more rugged trails or slopes, as I did not feel confident on rougher terrain with my other barefoot shoes. These definitely feel snug and secure when walking in those conditions. So they serve my purpose and are a great option and good quality shoes, even though they feel somewhat more stiff and less comfortable for day-to-day walking.I was disappointed that the laces were too short, as I prefer to double-knot shoe laces, particularly when walking in places where stopping to retie my shoes would be inconvenient. I ended up replacing them with elastic laces-- which are much easier and more secure all around. But that made me more aware of a different issue -- these shoes do not have a tab on the back to make it easier to pull the shoe on.
